# Addepar, Masttro and AI: what portfolio platforms cover

Addepar and Masttro are portfolio systems of record: they aggregate custodian and alternatives data, map ownership across entities, and produce consolidated reporting, and both now ship AI that answers questions about that portfolio data. If you are looking for an Addepar alternative because you want AI across the whole office, the better question is what sits outside the portfolio. The principal's inbox, the correspondence with advisers, trust documents and household matters live in other systems, and a private AI concierge can work across those beside the platform you already trust.

The descriptions below come from each company's own pages, read on 2026-10-15.

## What Addepar covers

Addepar describes itself as "a global data and AI platform" that helps investment professionals "turn complex financial information into actionable intelligence." It serves banks, family offices, fund managers, institutional allocators and wealth management firms. In its March 3, 2026 announcement, Addepar said it serves more than 1,400 firms across nearly 60 countries, with nearly $9 trillion in assets on the platform.

For family offices, Addepar says it can "transform multi-custodial data, illiquid alternatives and complex legal entities into a unified, single source of truth." It maps ownership dynamically and lets you "analyze look-through ownership and calculate total net worth across family branches." Addepar calls illiquid and alternative assets "one of Addepar's core strengths," covering private equity, venture capital, hedge funds, real estate and direct investments.

**Addepar's AI.** Addison is Addepar's native AI experience, launched on March 3, 2026. Addepar says it draws on its unified data model to answer questions and direct users to the right workflows, "whether that's summarizing portfolio performance, investigating drivers of returns or allocation changes, reviewing exposures or preparing more effectively for client conversations." The launch announcement describes "permission-aware access and traceable outputs grounded in real portfolio context." Addepar also lists an "Addepar MCP beta" that brings Addepar intelligence into Claude, with a waitlist.

## What Masttro covers

Masttro describes itself as "the global leader in wealth technology for aggregating, visualizing, and managing complex portfolios across all asset classes." It lists single family offices, multi-family offices, wealth advisers, financial institutions, professional services firms and wealth owners as the clients it serves, and reports 10,000+ users across 40+ countries and 750+ direct custodian data feeds.

Masttro's coverage reaches past securities. It lists traditional assets, alternatives (private equity, hedge funds, venture capital, direct investments, private credit, crypto), real estate, collections such as art, jewelry and vehicles, and entity structures: companies, trusts, LLCs and foundations. Its Global Wealth Map shows "every entity and asset in one real time map," and it delivers "consolidated, brandable reports to trustees, the next generation, or an outside advisor."

**Masttro's AI.** Masttro Intelligence groups several features. Documents AI "automatically ingests, processes, and catalogs any document into a centralized hub," and Masttro says it processes capital calls, distribution memos and K-1s. Alternatives AI "collects, categorizes, extracts transaction-level data." Masttro Assistant lets you "interact conversationally with their wealth data by voice or text," and Reports Playground interprets what you ask for and finds or generates reports. On security, Masttro states Swiss-based infrastructure, ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, that "client data never leaves the security of the Masttro platform," and that "no client data is ever used to train the AI modules."

## Side by side

| | Addepar | Masttro |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Core job | Portfolio data, performance and reporting across public and private markets | Aggregating, visualizing and managing wealth across all asset classes |
| Entities | Look-through ownership and net worth across family branches | Global Wealth Map of companies, trusts, LLCs and foundations |
| Alternatives | Named as a core strength | Alternatives AI for fund data; Documents AI for capital calls and K-1s |
| AI | Addison, permission-aware and grounded in portfolio data; MCP beta for Claude | Masttro Intelligence: Documents AI, Alternatives AI, Masttro Assistant, Reports Playground |
| Stated security | Developed "with privacy, security and governance first" | Swiss infrastructure, ISO/IEC 27001:2022, no training on client data |

Both are strong at the job a family office CFO hires them for: one trusted set of numbers across custodians, managers and entities. If your question is "which system should hold our book of record," compare them on custodian coverage, alternatives handling and reporting. See the [consolidated reporting guide](/blog/family-office-consolidated-reporting/) for that decision.

## The rest of the office

A portfolio system answers questions about holdings. Much of a family office's day runs through other channels. Neither company's pages describe working across the principal's inbox, and the work below usually lives in email, shared drives and people's heads:

- **Correspondence.** The thread with estate counsel about a trust amendment, the CPA's questions about a K-1, a co-investor's side letter.
- **Entities beyond the ledger.** Board minutes, operating agreements and the reasons a structure was set up the way it was, as opposed to the ownership percentages.
- **The household.** Staff, properties, travel, insurance renewals, school deadlines, and the principal's own requests.
- **Deals in motion.** Memos, data rooms and diligence notes for investments that have not reached the portfolio yet.

This is where a private AI fits. It reads the office's own email and documents, answers with citations back to the source, and acts within the permissions you set. The portfolio platform stays the system of record for the numbers. When someone asks "what did we agree with the GP about the fee holiday, and does it show in Q3?", one tool holds the email and the other holds the capital account.

For how these pieces fit together, see the [family office technology stack guide](/blog/family-office-technology-stack/) and [private AI for family offices](/blog/private-ai-for-family-offices/).

## Questions to ask before adding AI to the stack

1. Which data does each AI feature read? Addison and Masttro Assistant work on the data inside their own platforms. Anything else needs its own tool.
2. Who can see what? Permission-aware answers matter more when the AI reads email, because staff should not see the principal's private threads.
3. Where does the data go for inference, and is it used for training? Masttro answers this on its page. Ask every vendor in writing.
4. Can you trace every answer to a source document? Citations let your team check the answer before acting on it.
5. Does the new tool duplicate the system of record, or sit beside it? Duplicated numbers drift.

## Working alongside your portfolio platform

Private SuperIntelligence from Mitosis Labs is an AI concierge for family offices, enterprises and private clients: the most capable AI, trusted with everything. It works across your office's own email, documents and data, answers with citations, and acts within the permissions you set, so your portfolio system stays the book of record. Each deployment is built for one client, from the hardware to the choice of model provider to where the data is stored. Read more on the [family offices page](/family-offices/).

## Frequently asked questions

### Is there an Addepar alternative with AI built in?

Masttro is one: it offers Masttro Intelligence, including Documents AI and Masttro Assistant. Addepar itself now includes Addison, a native AI experience launched in March 2026.

### What is Addepar Addison?

Addison is Addepar's native AI experience. Addepar says it answers questions about portfolio performance, return drivers, allocation changes and exposures, with permission-aware access and traceable outputs.

### Does Masttro use client data to train its AI?

Masttro states that "no client data is ever used to train the AI modules" and that client data never leaves its platform.

### Can Addepar or Masttro read the family office's email?

Neither company's pages describe reading email. Their AI works on the portfolio data, documents and reports held in their own platforms.
