# Your private bank's AI vs. AI that works for the family

Your private bank's AI works for your banker. Tools such as Morgan Stanley's AI @ Morgan Stanley Debrief and J.P. Morgan's Connect Coach help the bank's advisers prepare for meetings, summarize calls and draw on the bank's research, inside the bank's systems. AI that works for the family sits on the family's side of the table: it works across every bank, entity, adviser and inbox the family uses, and answers to the family's permissions.

Both are useful, and they solve different problems. This page describes what the banks say their tools do, from their own pages, and where an AI for the family fits beside them.

## What private banks' AI does, in their own words

**Morgan Stanley.** Morgan Stanley Wealth Management rolled out AI @ Morgan Stanley Assistant in September 2023, a generative AI chatbot it describes as "offering FAs quick access to all of Morgan Stanley's intellectual capital." By June 2024 the firm said 98% of Financial Advisor teams had adopted it. On June 26, 2024 it announced AI @ Morgan Stanley Debrief, an OpenAI-powered tool that, "with client consent, generates notes on a Financial Advisors' behalf in client meetings and surfaces action items." After the meeting, Debrief summarizes key points, drafts an email "for an Advisor to edit and send at their discretion," and saves a note into Salesforce.

**J.P. Morgan.** JPMorganChase launched LLM Suite, its in-house generative AI platform, in summer 2024 and says it reached 200,000 onboarded users within eight months, giving employees access to large language models "in a secure environment." In its 2025 annual report letters, the firm's asset and wealth management business describes Connect Coach, which serves 12,000 users across the Private Bank and U.S. Wealth Management and includes 25 specialized AI agents. The firm says advisers use it "to accelerate meeting preparation, support portfolio analysis and generate call summaries," and that it has pushed 1 million AI-driven insights to front-office users.

These are serious programs. If your banker uses them, you may get better-prepared meetings, faster follow-ups and research drawn from a large firm's resources. Morgan Stanley's own disclosure on the Debrief release adds a fair caution for any AI: "You should always verify the results of any AI-generated output."

## Whose workflow each one serves

The difference is who the tool works for and what it can see.

| | Your private bank's AI | AI that works for the family |
|---|---|---|
| Built for | The bank's advisers and employees | The principal, the family and the family office team |
| Works on | The bank's systems, research and its records of your relationship | The family's own email, documents and data, across every institution |
| Sees other banks and custodians | No, beyond what you share with the bank | Yes, if the family connects them |
| Sees trusts, entities, K-1s, legal and tax files held elsewhere | Only what the bank holds | Yes, within the permissions the family sets |
| Meeting notes go to | The bank's CRM (Debrief saves to Salesforce) | The family's own records |
| Who sets permissions | The bank | The family |
| Typical output | A better-prepared banker | A briefing, draft or answer for the family, with sources |

None of this is a criticism of the banks. A bank's AI has to serve the bank's advisers under the bank's controls, and it does that well. It is not set up to reconcile the family's position across a second bank, read the trust agreement held by your attorney, or draft the principal's reply to an accountant.

## What changes when the AI works for the family

**One view across institutions.** If your family banks with more than one firm, each bank's AI sees its own slice. An AI for the family can pull statements from all of them, plus the capital calls, K-1s and entity documents that sit with your managers, accountants and lawyers.

**Your own record of the meeting.** When your banker's notetaker summarizes a meeting, the summary lives in the bank's CRM. An AI for the family can keep your own notes of the same conversation, in your own files, with the actions you agreed.

**Questions to settle before you raise them with the bank.** "Are we paying more in fees at this bank than the other?" "What did we agree on the loan covenant last spring?" You may want the facts in hand before the conversation. An AI for the principal can answer them from the family's own records first.

**Permissions the family controls.** The family decides which members, staff and advisers see what, and what the AI may do on its own. Sending, paying and anything external can require a person.

Our guide [Private AI for family offices](/blog/private-ai-for-family-offices/) covers the privacy questions to ask of any AI that holds family information.

## Questions to ask your banker about the bank's AI

- Which AI tools will you use on our relationship, and do they record or transcribe our meetings?
- Will you ask for our consent before using a notetaker, as Morgan Stanley says Debrief does?
- Where do the notes from our meetings go, and can we have a copy?
- Who reviews AI-drafted messages before they reach us?
- Does any outside model provider receive our information, and on what terms?

You are entitled to clear answers.

## Using both

For most families the right answer is both. Let the bank's AI make your banker sharper. Keep an AI of your own that knows the whole picture, prepares you for the meeting, and keeps the family's record of what was said. If you run a multi-family office or advise families, the same split applies to your firm; see [AI for wealth management](/wealth-management/).

## Private SuperIntelligence

Private SuperIntelligence is the most capable AI, trusted with everything. It is an AI concierge for family offices and private clients, held to a private-bank standard of discretion and service, that works across the family's own email, documents and data, answers with citations, and acts within the permissions the family sets. Each deployment is built for one client, and the provider keeps no copy of the work, trains nothing on it and cannot see the outputs. Read more on [AI for family offices](/family-offices/).

## Frequently asked questions

### Is there an AI private banker?

Private banks use AI to support their human bankers: Morgan Stanley's AI @ Morgan Stanley tools and J.P. Morgan's Connect Coach help advisers prepare, take notes and summarize calls. The banker stays the person you deal with, and the AI works for the banker.

### What AI do private banks use?

Morgan Stanley describes AI @ Morgan Stanley Assistant and Debrief, which it calls OpenAI-powered. JPMorganChase describes LLM Suite for employees firm-wide and Connect Coach for advisers in its Private Bank and U.S. Wealth Management.

### Can my private bank's AI see my accounts at other banks?

It works on the bank's own systems and the information you give the bank. Accounts held elsewhere are outside it unless you share them.

### What is AI for the principal?

AI that works on the principal's and family's own information, across every institution and adviser, and answers to permissions the family sets. It prepares the principal, where a bank's tool prepares the banker.

### Should a family office use its bank's AI or its own?

Both can coexist. The bank's AI improves the service you get from that bank, and the family's own AI covers everything the bank cannot see.
